Megan & Osaze: Heartfelt Oak Brook Bath and Tennis Club Wedding
About the Couple
This is a story about a boy, a girl, and some red-bottomed Louboutins. Halfway through our engagement session, Megan slipped a pair or nude heels with distinctive crimson bottoms out of the shoebox, she said, “My sister got these for me,” and I knew there was a special story behind those shoes.
More on those shoes in a minute…
Megan and Osaze met while studying at the University of Kansas — he was on the football team, and she was practicing to become a social worker. After exchanging numbers while out at a bar they went on their first date, and in Megan’s words, “The rest was history.” After graduating, they moved together to the Chicago suburbs where Osaze proposed. They love going on adventures together and trying new and different activities, and one of those adventures included buying a new home together while in quarantine!
My Favorite Moments
The Red-Bottomed Shoes
When I arrived at Megan’s suite at La Meridien, those red-bottomed shoes were waiting for me, and as I photographed Megan and her ladies getting ready, I heard the story of how those shoes became so special.
Megan and her sister, Kat, grew up very close to their grandmother, and one of the things they loved doing most with her was going shopping at the old Nordstrom store in the Oak Brook Center shopping mall. While their grandma has since passed away, Kat wore red Louboutins in honor of her at her own wedding. And when Megan got engaged to Osaze, Kat bought her a pair of Louboutins so she could continue the tradition.
But the story of the red-bottomed shoes doesn’t stop there. Just across the parking lot from La Meridien, was that very same Nordstrom store Megan and Kat had so many fond memories of growing up, and it was only natural for us to pop over and grab a few fun and informal shots in front of a storefront that bore so much significance in Megan and Kat’s lives.
Three First Looks
This wedding was filled with happy tears, and a lot of them centered around the three first looks Megan and Osaze planned into their wedding timeline. First, Megan surprised her bridesmaids with an epic first look in her hotel suite — just scroll down to see their reactions! Then, Megan and Osaze shared a private first look on the beautiful grounds of the historic Graue Mill and Museum. Finally, Megan shared a first look with her dad, and I don’t think there was a dry eye between them, or the photographers!
A Wedding Vow Video
Megan and Osaze chose to do something unique for their wedding ceremony. Instead of reciting traditional vows, or evening reading handwritten vows, they worked with my friend and colleague, Trevor, at Maloch Media, to film a one-of-a-kind vow video to play during their wedding ceremony. Now, they can always remember their vows to each other as they play back their vow film. Thank you, Trevor, for helping make this unique wedding feature possible.
