Lisa & Perry: Romantic University of Chicago Engagement Session
How did you meet?
As the famous song goes, we found love in a hopeless place…during the middle of a global pandemic. After exchanging many messages and hours of video calls, we had our first date on July 4, and the rest is history!
How long have you been together?
We got engaged after dating for a little over a year, and our wedding takes place right around our second anniversary of being a couple.
How did you fall in love?
We took a risk to meet up during a global pandemic when the world was in lockdown, and it paid off! On our first date, we spent a warm afternoon sitting beneath the shade in Grant Park and felt a strong connection as we shared our hopes and passions. We officially became a couple on our third date and included each other in our COVID bubbles, quickly falling in love thereafter.
How did he propose?
On October 2, we went to the Chicago Botanic Garden, a place we explored on one of our first dates as a couple. A few weeks before the proposal, Perry used the garden’s mobile app to identify potential proposal locations based on what flowers would be in bloom. As we walked around the grounds, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the greenhouses were open. It was quiet and secluded with few visitors. In the tropical greenhouse, we walked by an exotic banana plant and Perry said he wanted to take a picture of me with it. I looked up at the banana plant and when I turned around, he was down on one knee holding the beautiful ring!
The Engagement Session at the University of Chicago
Planning a University of Chicago engagement session was important to both Lisa and Perry, as the historic school is where she obtained her law degree, and Perry now works as a doctor at the university’s medical center. The University of Chicago is home to some of the most impressive gothic-style architecture in Chicago and we had so much fun together exploring the campus, with stops on the University Quad, Hull Gate, Rockefeller Chapel, and more.
We even recreated an iconic moment from Lisa and Perry’s favorite movie, “When Harry met Sally!” Check out highlights from their University of Chicago engagement session below to see for yourself!
What are you most excited about for your wedding?
Lisa: Seeing Perry’s face when I walk down the aisle, sharing our vows with each other, and being surrounded by our family and friends.
Perry: Celebrating our special day with all our family and friends and being able to reunite with those whom we haven’t seen for a long time.
What do you love most about him?
Perry’s patience, sincerity, and devotion. He always strives to make me happy and loves me for who I am. And he makes me smile with his adorable nicknames for me (like honey bun and honey bunches of oats!).
What do you love most about her?
Lisa’s wit, compassion, and drive. She volunteers her time serving as a mentor for students, providing them with practical advice while always lending an ear. She is always seeking to improve herself and is fiercely funny, even when teasing me about my nerdy interests. She is also incredibly supportive of my career and work.
What are your favorite hobbies to do together as a couple?
Cooking and trying out new recipes, baking cheesecakes, watching movies (currently 70 movies and counting!), exploring Chicago’s many parks, and watercolor painting (a gift Perry gave Lisa for their first anniversary)
