Chris & Morgan Wedding – Oscar Swan Country Inn Abbey Farms Chicago IL

Getting Ready

Chris and Morgan’s Chicago fine art wedding was such an unforgettable experience, spanning four locations and two cultures. Wedding Photos Oscar Swan Country Inn Abbey Farms Chicago IL

Morgan got ready with her Mom, sisters, and bridesmaids at their childhood home in Wheaton, IL. The intimate setting set the day off to a joyful, wonderful start. Morgan’s mom and older sister, Britt, helped her with the final preparations — buttoning up the dress and putting on heirloom jewelry. Morgan shared personalized gift bags with each of her bridesmaids before the group of ladies departed for the first look. Wedding Photos Oscar Swan Country Inn Abbey Farms Chicago IL

Chris enjoyed an upscale treatment, getting ready in an opulent suite with his groomsmen at the Hotel Arista. Like the stellar groom he is, Chris had prepared customized gifts for each of the guy: an engraved pocketknife and a suave pair of sunglasses.

First Look

The first look took place in the secluded garden area of Oscar Swan Country Inn in Geneva, IL. Away from the hustle and bustle, the couple were able to enjoy one another in a private, almost fanciful setting. Chris was especially overwhelmed, by how beautiful Morgan looked in her custom BHLDN gown! Wedding Photos Oscar Swan Country Inn Abbey Farms Chicago IL

The Ceremony

The wedding itself was a blended Filipino-American ceremony, which was a delightful first experience for me. The bride wore a traditional white dress, while the groom sported a barong tagalog—a sheer and ornately-embroidered shirt worn over his dress shirt and black pants.

Joining the bridal party were the couple’s “sponsors” or godparents—called ninong and ninang—who act as the ceremony’s primary witnesses. Witnesses are very important to Filipino weddings, and everyone takes the role very seriously!

The veil proved a major difference as well. This was no simple, bridal head covering—this veil wrapped up both the bride and the groom! The sheer white material was draped and pinned over the groom’s shoulder and the bride’s head, symbolizing that they are bound together for life. Next, a cord was placed over their heads and onto their shoulders, symbolizing not only their new commitment to each other but the eternity of their relationship. Finally, the groom received the arrhae—13 unity coins representing prosperity. Chris handed them to Morgan, symbolizing that he will love her materially as well as spiritually. The Reception

Finally, it was time for one of the biggest deals in Filipino weddings—the reception! The event was held in the Emporium at Abbey Farms, where the view over Fox Valley at sunset kept the fanciful, secretive feeling of the evening alive. I loved capturing beautiful, candid moments throughout the reception: a cocktail hour filled with joyous guests and hors d’oeuvres, and touching speechings from the best man, maid of honor, and the bride and groom’s parents.

After a day with all eyes on the bride, it was finally the groom’s turn to steal the show with a moving mother-son dance—after which Chris continued to show off  his sweet moves on the dance floor late into the evening! The couple also set their guests up with a photo booth, complete with personalized props, and a showstopping donut tree for late night snacks. It was truly a one-of-a-kind pleasure to serve as Chis and Morgan’s Chicago fine art wedding photographer.
