Bridal Session Tips: What is a bridal session? Do I need one?

If you’re not a from the South (or maybe even Europe, too!), the concept of a bridal portrait session might be a bit foreign to you. It’s a fairly old tradition in which the bride books an additional portrait session centered solely on her, taking place weeks or even months before the wedding day. Photos from this session are usually kept hidden from the groom and guests until the wedding day, and many brides choose to display a large print from the session at the reception venue.

Bridal Session Tips

“Bridals” as we sometimes call them in the wedding industry, are not for everyone, but it’s important to understand the reasons why they can be beneficial. That way, you can decide for yourself if you want to add them to your wedding plans. bridal session tips

Fine tune your wedding day look

If you’re like most brides, you probably had your wedding dress fitted with your hair tied up in a messy bun, so the bridal portrait session is a fantastic opportunity to see your whole ensemble put together before the big day. I highly recommend having the same hair and makeup artist working for you at this session as well as your wedding day — that way you can communicate any necessary tweaks you might need to make. The easiest way to make this happen is to set your hair and makeup trial for the same day as your bridal shoot! A bridal shoot is also a great opportunity to get used to moving in your dress and identify any final tailoring opportunities before you get to “crunch time.”

Get comfortable in front of the camera!

Bridal sessions are similar to engagement sessions in that they give you another chance to understand your working relationship with the camera. A bridal session is a great opportunity to practice responding to your photographer’s cues and prompts without the hustle of the wedding day on your mind. Bonus tip: make sure you bring your wedding shoes with you so you know how you have to move on the big day! bridal session tips

Capture beautiful, stress-free bridal portraits

I partner with each and every one of my brides to make sure we create beautiful portraits on their wedding day, but a bridal session is an extra special opportunity for us to capture you looking your absolute best. Because we don’t have to worry about guests or timelines, all you have to do is focus on looking fabulous! With 1-2 hours devoted to your bridal portrait session, we’ll have ample opportunity to document all of the pieces you’ve so carefully curated for your wedding day look, and we’ll have fun in the process!
